Kicking of 2026 with a book a little different, a historical romance set in 1860's post Civil War America, slaves have now been freed and we follow the lives of those trying to navigate a world where racism is still rife.

FMC is a strong woman with a purpose of teaching and meets the MMC when he saves her from a brutal attack.

This is a slow burn, full of romance. The MMC taken by her wit, charm, strong nature and passions, rather than just lust. It felt like reading the lives of real people rather than following an insane plot line, so it felt more natural and subtle.

Some felt it was hard to combine the romance with the harsh historical/political themes, however the historical aspects were educational and full of depth.

A satisfying read though it all ended quite quickly. We want more of their married life.
